Welcome to the forum ad-digitize. You will find many experienced and knowledgeable friends here that will help when asked as well. If you need something, ask.

What software do you use to digitize and create in?

Hey everyone, got a few questions about embroidery, 1) What is the most commonly used program, and 2) What is the process of converting a vector logo into an embroidery file? Do you have to redraw the entire logo again, or is it as simple as say just opening it up in the embroidery program and converting to stitches I guess?  I am not sure how this works I am in the screen printing industry and we send all embroidery out and it takes longer and cost more cause of digitizing fees. Just kinda want to look in to it for future so maybe we could do all of that in house. Any input would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,
Zilch

Hey Zilch, From what I've read and learned so far alot of people are using Embird. The bigger companies use Compucon. I have used a few different programs. I like Embird, but I wanted to try half a dozen different software programs before I spent $$ on one. I have tried the freeware Sophies Sew, It has alot of bugs. Right now I am learning Stitch Era Universal from Sierra Software. If you pay S&H ($10) they will send you the software disc or you can download it FREE. It is actually quite good, but you have to be connected to the internet when using it. The more I use it, the more I like it. You can also upgrade to Stich Era Liberty for more features, and then you do not have to be online to use it.
You can digitze / edit / add lettering / stitch photos / combine designs and much more. The only drawback is the help files are not great. I do have the manual in pdf so if you should ever want it....
I would like to try WingsXP 4 but I think it is around $4 grand. Most of the higher end programs now require a dongle key to run the software. Hope I have helped a little.
Always Robin
